Preventative Products

What Our Community is Saying

I appreciate that ALL of their animals come vetted before they're up for adoption. Vaccines, spay/neuter, even MICROCHIP! They also go through a series of temperament tests.  I've gotten 2 dogs from them and am currently so in love with them I volunteer weekly.

Jordin

I went to the event today (free microchipping for cats).  I may have even been the first one there. In an out with 3 cats in less than 30 minutes. Absolutely fantastic people!

If you’ve ever been to a shelter and have experienced the seeming indifference of the people whose responsibility it is to care and nurture these poor creatures, be ready to be astounded at the caring and concern of the people who work here and the wonderful people who volunteer at St Frances. Thank you, each and every one of you.

Heartworms, fleas, intestinal parasites, ear mites: Revolution

$50 for a 3 month supply

WHY CARE? Heartworms are usually fatal in cats before we even know they are affected. Fleas cause tapeworm disease, flea allergy, and flea bite anemia which can be fatal. Intestinal parasites can cause severe and fatal disease by affecting the body’s ability to effectively absorb nutrients. Intestinal parasites can also cause a life threatening diarrhea – some cases with fatal blood loss. Ear mites are a horrible parasitic infection; the mites are actually chewing on your cat’s inner ear.

  •  Can be applied if greater than 8 weeks and greater than 2.5lbs
  •  Topical- placed on the skin at the shoulder blade once a month.
  •  Must wait until product is dry for safety and effectiveness

Effective against:

  • Fleas – all stages. Topical is absorbed into the bloodstream; kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching
  • Heartworm – prevents disease in 100% of patients along with prevention of associated fatal lung complications.
  • Intestinal Parasites – 100% effective against roundworm, 98.8% effective against hookworm
  • Ear mites – 100% effective
  • Requires brief medical exam

Dogs/Puppies

Heartworm and intestinal parasites: Triheart Plus

$20-$40 depending on dog’s weight for a 3-month supply

  • Can be given to patients greater than 6 weeks of age
  • Chewable pill given monthly

Effective against:

  • Heartworm – prevents juvenile heartworms from developing into adults
  • Intestinal parasites – roundworm and hookworm
  • Requires a brief exam by a veterinarian and a heartworm test annually
Fleas, ticks, mosquitos, lice, and mites: Vectra 3D

$40 for a 3-month supply

*NEVER APPLY TO CATS*

WHY CARE? 7 species of heartworm have been identified that are resistant/immune to heartworm prevention. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos – by repelling and killing mosquitos we vastly decrease the probability that the pet will contract HW disease. Fleas cause tapeworm disease, flea allergy dermatitis and fatal flea bite anemia. Ticks cause lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, babesia, rocky mountain spotted fever and anaplasmosis – all potentially fatal diseases.

  • Can be given to puppies over 8 weeks of age
  • Topical that is applied “TOOTER TO SNOOTER” on the skin along the spine monthly.

Effective against:

  • Fleas, larvae, eggs– kills and repels
  • Ticks– kills and repels- minimizing bites which prevents transmission of fatal disease
  • Mosquitos– kills and repels- minimizing the possibility of HW transmission
  • Lice, mites (excluding mange), biting and sand flies

Recommend exam by veterinarian but it is an over the counter medication, therefore exam not required.
