Caroline’s Mission

CCpic SFwebsite

My name is Caroline Coleman and I’m a resident of Georgetown, South Carolina. To celebrate turning 50 this year I have decided raise money for shelter dogs in need by combining two things I love: dogs and triathlons. Dogs have been a special part of my life since I was a little girl, and for over two decades my husband and I have rescued and raised ten awesome and unique dogs. We have three rescues now: Abby Grace, Doc & Hope.

I am going about my goal by training for and participating in a Half-Ironman race: Ironman 70.3 North Carolina, which will take place October 21, 2017. The triathlon begins with a 1.2-mile swim at Wrightsville Beach, followed by a 56-mile bike ride, and then a 13.1-mile run, with the finish in downtown Wilmington. I’ll be doing about 150 hours of training for this race, so I am excited to dedicate my efforts to dogs in need at Saint Frances Animal Center.

Devon Smith, the director of Saint Frances, expressed to me the ongoing urgent need to treat heartworm positive dogs at the shelter. Each year Saint Frances takes in about 300 such dogs and although it is a treatable disease, it is also very expensive at a cost of $275 per dog.  That comes to $6,875 per month/$82,500 per year. The sooner these dogs are treated, the quicker they can get healthy and find forever homes.

My desire is to raise enough money to treat as many of these heartworm positive dogs as possible. I would sincerely appreciate your help in obtaining this goal!
